Pope regrets the “unacceptable” situation of the Palestinians in Gaza and asks for respite

Pope Leo 14 denounced the “unacceptable” conditions faced by the Palestinians in Gaza on Wednesday, expressing solidarity with civilians and renewing their charm for a ceased in the war between Israel and Hamas.

“I express my profound closeness to the Palestinian people in Gaza, who continues to live in fear and survive in unacceptable conditions, forced once again to leave his land,” said the Pope in his general weekly public of the Vatican.

Israel launched a great terrestrial attack on the city of Gaza Tuesday, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to escape from their homes among what the residents said they were the heaviest bombings in two years of war.

The Pope has renewed his appeal for a truce, the release of hostages held in Gaza and a diplomatic solution negotiated for the conflict. He asked the faithful to join him in prayer “so that he soon presents a dawn of peace and justice”.

Leo, the first Pope of the United States, has intensified his appeals at the end of the war in Gaza in recent weeks.

At the beginning of this month, the Pope met the Israeli president Isaac Herzog in the Vatican. In an unusual declaration, the Vatican said that Leo regretted the “tragic situation in Gaza” with Herzog.
