Watch out for traffic jams in Middle Earth. While Rings of Power season 3 is highly anticipated but not yet official, other projects inspired by JRR Tolkien’s novels are expected, including the animated film The War of the Rohirrim (in theaters December 11).
Added to this are new feature films, including a Hunt for Gollum film directed by Andy Serkis, or even a spin-off focused on Gandalf (with Ian McKellen). These new films will be produced and co-written by Peter Jackson, but his presence behind the camera for one of the new opus has not been confirmed.
The Lord of the Rings series can be considered a prequel to The Lord of the Rings, as it takes place approximately 3,000 years before the adventures of The Fellowship of the Ring. However, due to copyright, the program is not related to the Peter Jackson films, and therefore the connection between the two adaptations is completely excluded.
Why doesn’t Lord of the Rings screenwriter want to see a TV series?
During an interview with the magazine EmpirePhilippa Boyens – co-writer of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies – has revealed she has no plans to watch the Prime Video series. However, his decision is not motivated by any sense of rivalry, but by artistic reasons:
I have not seen it, it is not a deliberate choice, because I should not judge the work of others who want to explore this world. But the real reason I don’t watch the show is because I don’t want to pollute my mind. I don’t want to give the impression that the series influenced our history. I hope to see him one day. But before that, I have to get rid of my ass to get back to Middle Earth.
The New Zealand screenwriter, who won an Oscar for his screenplay for The Return of the King, oversaw the writing of the animated film The War of the Rohirrim. A regular collaborator with Peter Jackson, he also wrote his films King Kong and Lovely Bones, as well as the blockbuster Mortal Engines.
