Initially, they should not be separated. Since the first season of The Walking Dead, Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) have formed a duo like no other. This platonic couple has gone through the worst trials together and allowed them both to survive the worst traumas.
An unexpected family incident causes the two characters to drift apart
A spin-off series dedicated to Daryl Dixon was supposed to bring them together, but an unforeseen family incident ultimately prevented Carol’s interpreter from participating in the filming of the first season. “I remember the whole first season I was texting Melissa: ‘When are you coming?’, ‘Hurry up!’ Confirmed by Norman Reedus at the microphone of our colleagues Recreational television.
Despite her absence, Carol has never been forgotten by the American actor or the show’s fans, and a bonus scene at the end of the first season confirmed that she would indeed return for Daryl Dixon’s second season. Therefore, it is a reunion on screen, but also on film between the two actors, which happened in the 4th episode of this season.
“Because there were these unexpected circumstances, it was more important for both of us to capture that get-together sequence, and we tried to make it a unique moment.” explained Norman Reedus in the same interview. “It’s funny, when I’m filming with Melissa, if she’s crying, I start crying too, I can’t help it.”
At first the scene should have been different. Carol had to find Daryl locked in a jail cell. However, the two performers requested that the sequence be changed so that the emotion was “different” on the American actor’s microphone. TVLine :
We wanted to do something different, when this reunion happens, it has to be extraordinary. We wanted it to be an exciting moment, full of adrenaline for both characters.
The main character was killed
In this episode, the main character of the series also said goodbye. Clemens is indeed punched in the gut by Isabelle’s poetry, before collapsing into Daryl’s grief-stricken arms.
A shocking and above all unexpected death that greatly affected the American actor, as he confided to our American colleagues: “I was very sad to see Clemens Poesy go because I really liked him. He brought some very valuable quality to the series. He’s a great actor and has great ideas.”
Season 2 episodes of Daryl Dixon can be seen every week exclusively on Paramount+ and also available with a subscription to Canal+.
