Peixe reaches 59 points in the standings and needs another five to reach the ‘magic number’ and say goodbye to Serie B
Santos beat Ceará this Tuesday (22nd), in Vila Viva Sorte, in the 33rd round of the Serie B of the Brazilian championship, and is ever closer to promotion. Peixe has opened up an eight-point gap to fifth place in the table and only needs two more victories to return to Série A.
Internally Santos works with the “magic number” of 64 points. With 59 players at the moment, Peixe needs two wins or a triumph and two draws to enter. In this way, the team would exceed the set goal and return to the elite after playing in the second division for the first time in its history.
In the next matches Santos will face Ituano, Vila Nova, Coritiba, CRB and Sport. There will be two matches at Vila Viva Sorte and three away from home. The last match, in fact, will be against Leão, on Ilha do Retiro, in a clash that could also win the Serie B title.
“There are 32 days left until the end of the season. We will continue to work hard to achieve our goals,” said Carille after the victory against Ceará.
According to calculations, Santos has a 90% chance of returning to Serie A. Despite the high number, the coaching staff and players are keeping their feet on the ground before the celebration.
