The guide includes Genoa among the best destinations to visit in 2025

The ranking was drawn up by the specialized publishing house ‘Lonely Planet’

The city of Genoa, capital of the Liguria region, in northern Italy, is the only destination in the European country to be included in the “Best in Travel 2025” list by Lonely Planet – a publishing house specializing in tourist guides -, which brought together the 30 best travel experiences for next year.

Considered by many to be the ‘Lady of the Sea’, the municipality has been classed as a ‘precious secret’, with superlative culinary skills, a stunning coastline and a deserved reputation as one of Italy’s most historically and culturally vibrant cities.

“Best in Travel brings together the best destinations to inspire travelers to explore the world in a more conscious way and broaden the spectrum of possible destinations to discover in the near future, be they exotic places or those closer to home, such as Genoa, a which knows how to mix history and innovation, ideal for those travelers looking for an authentic and meaningful experience”, announced Angelo Pittro, director of Lonely Planet Italia.

According to the publisher, who has been publishing his travel guides for 50 years and already translated into 11 languages, Genoa seduces “with its historical charm, its delicious gastronomy and the electric future that comes with new sustainable means of transport”.

Other destinations to visit in 2025 also appear on the list, such as Cameroon, the most voted for its “pristine beaches, little-visited national parks and exciting urban nightlife”; Lithuania, Fiji, Laos, Kazakhstan, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago, Vanuatu, Slovakia and Armenia.

Among the cities, in addition to the Ligurian capital, there are Toulouse, in the south of France, the most voted for its “strongly expanding art scene and walks along the Garonne”, then the Indian Puducherry, the Bulgarian Bansko, the Thai Chiang Mai, Pittsburgh in the United States, as well as Osaka in Japan, Palma in Spain, Edmonton in Canada and Curitiba in Brazil.

In addition to the destination guide, “Best in Travel 2025” also recommends “what to do”, in the chapter dedicated to trends that inspire travel, such as music, birdwatching, extraordinary markets, shows, less crowds in the park, local flavors and adventures among trees.

Each destination was chosen for its “wow factor”, unique cultural experiences and its commitment to sustainability, community and diversity.

According to Nitya Chambers, senior vice president and chief content officer at Lonely Planet, “The guide is a celebration of the world in all its beauty and diversity.” “We are proud to share with our readers the extraordinary destinations and experiences we discover there,” he concluded. .
