The visual style of Tim Burton’s films is unmistakable: dark, gothic worlds, characters misunderstood by society and with exaggerated physical features such as intense dark circles, large eyes and very thin bodies.
His works have been analyzed and praised by critics, but the audience noticed that 3 of his films are connected as they form a single story. We explain the theory to you.
The films in question are ‘Frankenweenie’, ‘Corpse Bride’ and ‘The Strange World of Jack’, which are also among critics’ and viewers’ favourites.
All have the filmmaker’s personal stamp, as he wrote them himself, and even though they were released several years apart, fans assure that it’s the same story following a character through different phases of his life.
According to one theory of the internet, everything starts inside Frankenweenie (2012), where a boy named Victor revives his dog Sparky after it dies.
However, his “supernatural” actions will begin to cause consequences he did not expect.
Then the boy grows up and becomes a daring scientist who does all kinds of experiments. So he creates a time machine and decides to travel with his pet.
But things go wrong and although he manages to reach another time, he loses his memory.
In this way he becomes his protagonist The corpse of the bride (2005), where the young man (who has the same name) accidentally marries a woman who has already died, named Emily, which prevents him from being with his real girlfriend, Victoria.
His dog has already died and Victor becomes a lonely and taciturn man.
However, when he travels to the underworld with his wife, he meets the ghost of his dog, now named Scraps. The audience finds a clear connection in this character and Sparky.
As we saw at the end, Victor manages to free Emily to find eternal rest. And then, he returns home to make it to the altar with Victoria, who he ends up falling in love with.
Following the theory, after living a happy life with the love of his life, the young man dies and reaches the underworld. Once there, he becomes Jack Skellington, the King of Halloween Jack’s Strange World (1993), who seeks to apply Christmas to the place where he lives since he is fascinated by all that it represents.
Fans even suggest that Victoria made it to the underworld like Sally, but neither she nor Victor can remember what they experienced in the past. Even so, the love between them is still present and that’s why they stay together after death.
A dog, named Zero, also appears in this film, who is very important to Jack. Like, it’s said to be another version of Victor’s pet.
In short, the 3 movies have several similarities that fit this theory, do you think they are all connected?
