The candidate tells the GO electoral court that he has a law degree, but the university denies it

Goiânia mayoral candidate Fred Rodrigues (PL) informed the Electoral Tribunal that he graduated in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University (PUC) of Goiás, but the university denied on Tuesday the 22nd of having issued his diploma. Now the mayoral candidate of the capital Goiás asks in the nomination register to change his level of education to an incomplete higher education.

Fred Rodrigues’ level of education was questioned at the Electoral Tribunal by União Brasil, the party of Sandro Mabel, opponent of the PL candidate in the elections. At a Mabel campaign event, Governor Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil) said the PL candidate “lied about his law degree.” Caiado also stated that the opponent could be indicted for the crime of false ideology.

In response to the Electoral Tribunal, the PUC of Goiás reported that the candidate entered the university in the second semester of 2004 by transfer, did not complete 200 additional hours, did not earn his degree and his enrollment has been deactivated since 2013. The institution also clarified that “it never issued the degree in Law to Frederico Gustavo Rodrigues da Cunha” and that “there is no information on the possible registration of a diploma with the Ministry of Education issued by another institution”.

After the university’s statement, the candidate’s defense also informed the electoral tribunal that Fred Rodrigues had told his supervisor, when registering his candidacy, that he “had completed all the subjects of the law course, leaving only the degree and additional hours.” Stating that it is “not true” to have completed higher education as a level of education, he called for a shift to incomplete higher education. Until the early afternoon of Wednesday 23rd, the information on the website of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) remained unchanged.

In a video published on Instagram this Wednesday, titled “Where’s Fred’s diploma”, the PL candidate explains that he completed all the subjects, but did not graduate because, at the time, he was already working in another area “of digital, communication and political analysis”.

While stating in the new document submitted to the electoral tribunal that his level of education is incomplete, Fred Rodrigues has already stated that he has a law degree. In the debate promoted by TV Record on October 19, the candidate declared that he had a degree and published his CV in the stories (a publication that lasts only 24 hours) on Instagram. The candidate’s government plan also contains the information.
