Tyler Perry’s sensual new production is coming to Netflix
Return to American fiction with a new series from Tyler Perry, a writer and director who is especially distinguished by the African-American community and produces content.
While most of his fiction has been criticized for stereotypes and clichés, his works, ranging from sitcoms to extravagant dramas to sensual thrillers, resonate with audiences who often have a love-hate relationship with the content.
Tyler Perry signed an exclusive partnership with Netflix for his new productions, and you could already discover Mea Culpa with Kelly Rowland on the platform earlier this year.
Today, the streaming service launched Tyler Perry’s first series for Netflix: Beauty in Black, which promises to be an exciting new adventure for subscribers and fans of the producer’s fiction.
What is “Beauty in Black”?
Not recommended for under 16s, Beauty in Black is billed as a bombshell drama that combines thriller, scandal, sex and business. And we can say that we are served!
The 16-episode series follows the contrasting journeys of two women. On the one hand, Kim (Taylor Polydor Williams) is a stripper with a tragic family history who struggles to make ends meet after her mother throws her out and goes to prison.
On the other hand, Mallory (Crystal Stewart) is a woman from a poor background who has managed to emerge as a business woman at the head of a cosmetics company owned by her wealthy and dysfunctional husband, who hides dark secrets related to their relationship. Another thing about trafficking, in which Kim thrives in spite of herself.
With everything against Kim and Mallory, the two young women’s paths cross after a tragic chain of events between an accident, a lie, an attack, and an operation that goes wrong.
If Beauty in Black pushes all the sliders to the extremes of a stunning and addictive dramatic thriller, with multiple twists, violence, sex, money and secrets, a setting reminiscent of series like Empire, this is about the journey of these two. Women doing whatever it takes to survive in an oppressive and dangerous male world that does them no favors.
The cast includes Steven Norfleet (Watchmen), Amber Raine Smith (Judge Me Not), Rico Ross (The Sandman), Julian Horton (Though Love: Atlanta), Tamera Kissen (White People Can’t Jump) and Charles Malik Whitfield (Chicago Med). But also veterans like Debbie Morgan (Evis Bayo, Force of Fate, Force) and Richard Lawson (Poltergeist, V).
