Less than an hour and a half after the start of voting this Sunday for the second round of municipal elections, the Federal Police (PF) has already made an arrest for an electoral crime in Brazil.

According to the PF, the crime committed was vote buying. There is no information yet on where the case occurred.

Another 10 people were taken to the police station on suspicion of committing irregularities and violating electoral legislation.

Since the first round on October 6, the PF has registered 867 cases of electoral crimes, with 665 police investigations (IPL) and 202 detailed terms (TC).

During this period, 443 people were arrested and the seized sums amounted to R$3,963,433.50, of which R$934,887.70 was in cash.

In 2024, accumulated seizures reach R$53.7 million (R$23.3 million in cash), mainly in investigations into electoral corruption (vote buying) and irregular propaganda (exit polls).
