After the second round, 16 of the 20 candidates for re-election in Brazilian capitals won the elections, highlights TSE


In Belém (PA), Fortaleza (CE), Teresina (PI) and Goiânia (GO), the current mayors were unable to renew their mandate




After the end of the counting of votes for the second round of the 2024 elections, 16 of the 20 candidates for re-election in the Brazilian capitals managed to remain in office, in their respective municipalities: of these, 10 won the elections in the first round and others you are in the second round, which took place this Sunday 27th.

The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) released a report on the second round and, in total, 3,038 mayors across Brazil sought re-election in the 2024 elections, with 80%, 2,459 candidates, actually managing to be re-elected .

  • Dr. Furlan (MDB), in Macapá (AP);
  • Tião Bocalom (PL), in Rio Branco (AC);
  • Arthur Henrique (MDB), in Boa Vista (RR);
  • Eduardo Braide (PSD), in São Luís (MA);
  • João Campos (PSB), in Recife (PE);
  • JHC (PL), in Maceió (AL);
  • Cícero Lucena (PP), to João Pessoa (PB);
  • Bruno Reis (União), in Salvador (BA);
  • Eduardo Paes (PSD) in Rio de Janeiro (RJ);
  • Lorenzo Pazolini (Republicans), in Vitória (ES);
  • Ricardo Nunes (MDB), in Sao Paulo (SP);
  • Fuad Noman (PSD), in Belo Horizonte (MG);
  • Adriane Lopes (PP), in Campo Grande (MS);
  • Topázio (PSD), in Florianópolis (SC); AND
  • Sebastião Melo (MDB), in Porto Alegre (RS).

In four other capitals, mayors seeking re-election lost their races in the 2024 first round on October 6, and their terms expire this year. See the report:

  • Edmilson Rodrigues (PSOL) was not re-elected in Belém (PA);
  • José Sarto (PDT), in Fortaleza (CE);
  • Dr. Pessoa (PRD), in Teresina (PI); AND
  • Rogério (Solidarity), in Goiânia (GO).

The mayors of Porto Velho (RO) did not stand for re-election, Hildon Chaves (Union); Palmas (TO), Cinthia Ribeiro (PSDB); of Natal (RN), Álvaro Dias (Republicans); from Aracaju (SE), Edvaldo Nogueira Filho (PDT); from Cuiabá (MT), Emmanuel Pinheiro (MDB); and Curitiba, Rafael Greca (PSD) – All have served two consecutive terms in their respective capitals.

Compared to the 2020 municipal elections, 13 candidates ran for re-election and 10 won the elections. As for the losers, one lost in the first round and two were defeated in the second round.
