Argentina’s libertarian president, Javier Milei, regained his great popularity in October, halting the decline seen in the last two months, according to opinion polls released on Monday.
In a context of strong readjustment of public spending and recovery of the country’s accounts, the decline in inflation and timid signs of recovery in some sectors of the economy have played in favor of the improvement of the presidential image, even amidst the gigantic protests of university students and pensioners.
A survey by the Torcuato Di Tella University shows that Milei’s approval rating was 2.43 points in October, an increase of 12.2% compared to September.
“At 2.43, the index is close to the average level of confidence of the Milei era, of 2.50 points during the 11 months of management,” indicated the survey conducted on 1,000 people in 41 locations across the country between 2 and October 15 a margin of error of +-0.062.
The government of the ultra-liberal economist manages to maintain a significant number of people who view its management favorably despite the recession and the increase in poverty which affects 52.9% of Argentines.
Another survey, conducted by the consultancy firm Aresco, also shows that the downward trend has stopped and that for 53.7% of those interviewed the president has a positive image with the improvement of the economic outlook, against 46 .3% with a negative image.
