This Tuesday, October 29, M6 airs the first two episodes of Kill Club, the new cop comedy from Tiffin Daviot and Eric Cantona.
This series follows the adventures of Amelia Delcourt, an adventurous young police officer who has just joined a crime squad. Obsessed with true crime, Amelia makes an irreparable mistake on a mission to capture Shakespeare, a terrifying serial killer who is terrorizing the north of France. Demoted after this mistake, he now has only one goal: to regain the trust of his colleagues and stop the killer before he strikes again.
When a 15-year-old girl’s disappearance is hastily classified as a runaway, Amelia decides to follow her instincts and conduct her own investigation undercover. But he quickly discovers that he is not the only one interested in the matter. Indeed, Daniel Hansen, a former criminology expert rejected by his peers, is now trying to redeem himself.
Despite their mutual reluctance, Amelia and Daniel will have no choice but to join forces to find the missing girl before she falls into the clutches of Shakespeare, whose past seems strangely connected to Daniel’s.
Tiphaine Daviot, who is well known to the audience for her role in En Famille, lends her features to Amelia Delcourt. The performance was critically acclaimed after she won the Best Actress award at the 2024 TV Series Mania. Together they make a duo that is both funny and exciting.
During the La Rochelle Arts Festival last September, Tifain Daviot and Eric Cantona spoke to Allociné about this new detective comedy, which should appeal to fans of the genre.
Allociné: What attracted you to this project?
Tifain Daviot : Tony. I like the mix of genres. I find that in France we are sometimes very shy about it. What I prefer to play and see as a spectator is what is in life. That is, it can be dark and it can be funny. For me, it is not at all irrelevant, on the contrary. I find that it can enhance emotions. And then, I really liked this duo of characters. I find it always works really well that they don’t like each other and then end up liking each other. It was interesting to me as a comedy duo.
Eric Cantona : the same!
Detective series have proliferated on our screens in recent years. Why do you think serial killers are so appealing to viewers?
Tifain Daviot : I think we all have a bit of a sick side. Personally, I love thrillers. The nice thing about fiction is that you’re a little protected. Even if it can be gleaned from the linked news, we put some distance because it is not us or our loved ones. There is finally something cathartic about it.
Is Shakespeare’s story inspired by real events?
Tifain Daviot : By no means. It’s just that the authors have very twisted minds (laughs).
Eric Cantona : They are novelists specializing in the genre. They are inspired by many things.
The series poked fun at the gothic world, especially with the murder episode. What was it like filming that scene?
Eric Cantona : We had a lot of fun. It was nice.
Tifain Daviot : The costumes were great and the location was incredible. It was an old cinema in Brussels. The setting was really strong. What was cool was that it was for a couple of little special episodes. Each time there was a very strong color.
How did the collaboration between you go?
Tifain Daviot : Good! It was very simple and very natural. We had a good laugh.
Eric Cantona : True, we laughed a lot on the set.
Do you have a memory from the shoot that you’d like to share?
Tifain Daviot : We laughed a lot in the last episode. Eric got to hit the folder on the head, it was pretty nice.
Eric Cantona : It was a really great shoot. We really had fun.
Were you surprised by the identity of the killer?
Eric Cantona : I didn’t expect it at all.
Tifain Daviot : It was a surprise. Really well put together.
Do you have any projects you can talk about?
Eric Cantona : I have some really cool things in development. Besides, I’m making music, an album will be released in April.
Tifain Daviot : I have a wedding comedy coming out in February 2025. I also just finished filming the French adaptation of the Ghost series for Disney+. The team is really great and it was a lot of fun. And here I am going to shoot for a France TV Slash series called Zonz, it’s about a prison for teenagers. It’s very good and written by the same author who created Scam.
