He said:

Separation made Ryan Reynolds not want to get married again

The tactic was obviously not used at the end of his marriage to Scarlett Johansson. The actors never publicly said what happened to lead to the split, but apparently it wasn’t very friendly.

Ryan Reynolds stated, months after the divorce in 2011, that he had lost the desire to marry again. To the newspaper DailyMail (via CheaSheet), he said:

I don’t think I’ll want to get married again. But you always rethink these things. Any crisis can be good. She makes you wake up. I have to say, I’m a different person than I was six months ago.”

Why the union with Blake Lively worked

It didn’t take long to Ryan Reynolds rethink the decision. Your union with Blake Lively occurred in 2012 — shortly after the separation of Scarlet Johansson — and together, they have four children.

In conversation with the Elite Daily, Reynolds believes it worked Blake Lively due to the fact that they had been friends for a long time before the union. The actor said:

My first date (with Blake) was the strangest of all, because there seemed to be fireworks everywhere. It was strange at first, but we had been partners for a long time. I think the best way to start a relationship is to start as friends.”

In another interview, now with People, Ryan Reynolds also cited the factor, in his opinion, responsible for making his marriage with Blake Lively last for years – something very difficult to happen in Hollywood. He stated:

I think the secret sauce to a lasting friendship in Hollywood isn’t much different than dating or marriage. I will genuinely root for you, all the time. I want you to win. That’s how I feel about Blake. As long as I’m rooting for her, I know she’s rooting for me and that’s why we’re so connected.”
