On Wednesday, Alvinegro will face Peñarol in the semi-final return of the Conmebol Libertadores
Seeking an unprecedented final against Libertadores, Botafogo left on Tuesday afternoon (29) for Uruguay, where they will face Peñarol in the semi-final second leg of the competition. Thus, around 80 Alvinegros fans celebrated the team’s boarding at Galeão airport.
The fans present organized a party to encourage the delegation. They sang songs in support of the athletes and also used flares at the bus reception at the airport. For the team’s arrival on site, the police were reinforced by soldiers from the BEPE (Specialized Stadium Police Battalion) and private security guards from the airport and the club. However, there were no disturbances of any kind during the party.
The fans were unable to have contact with any players, as the bus with the delegation headed straight to the entrance of the Cargo Terminal to board. Some fans, who were in other areas of Galeão, missed the party and boarding for this reason.
Botafogo is very close to reaching a historic ranking. The team won the first match 5-0 and, therefore, could lose up to four goals to reach the Libertadores final. The match will take place this Wednesday (30th), at 9.30pm, at the Estádio del Siglo. Still no confirmation, however, on the presence of fans on site. For security reasons, the Uruguayan Interior Minister vetoed the entry of Juventus fans. So far, Conmebol is preparing to make the match official behind closed doors.
