South Korean series are already successful on Netflix and other platforms; the titles were acquired for the Globoplay catalogue
THE Globe will surf the wave of success that dramas from South Korea on Netflix and other streaming platforms. The Brazilian broadcaster has reached an agreement with the South Korean entertainment company CJ ENM, responsible for several k-dramas, or dramas, a term used to include dramas produced in East and Southeast Asia, although the definition has already sparked controversy.
“We have acquired some K-dramas for the Globoplay catalogue, in line with the platform’s investment strategy in licensing international premium content. When we have new information on previews and titles, we will disclose them,” Globo confirmed to Estadão.
The productions will be made available throughout 2025. According to the Outro Canal column, from Folha de S.Paulo, the main purchase made by Globo is Glittering watermelon (or ‘Sparkling Watermelon’), broadcast by the local broadcaster tvN in 2023, and unprecedented in Brazil.
The plot follows young Ha Eun-Gyeol (Ryeoun), who is passionate about music. He travels through time and, in 1995, meets the 18-year-old version of his father, Ha Yi-chan (Choi Hyun-wook/Choi Won-young). Together they form a band with the goal of helping Ha Yi win over a girl at school.
However, Ha Eun is on a mission to ensure her own existence and reunites her father, in fact, with Yoon Cheong-ah (Shin Eun-soo/Seo Young-hee), her mother, then a young deaf woman passionate about art. .
According to the editorialist, the drama should be broadcast on television, on subscription channels, as well as in streaming.
