Tonight on TV: He was a comic book legend… he’s now a movie hero!

Asterix & Obélix, Boule & Bill, L’Élève Ducobu, Lucky Luke… here are among others comic book characters adapted for cinema. Gaston Lagaff, one of the most likable characters in all of Franco-Belgian comics, also had his own feature film.

  • Want another TV tip tonight? We recommend this first film to César and Romy Schneider and Philippe Noiret are impeccable.

Out in theaters in 2018 and directed by Pierre-Francois Martin-Laval (to whom we owe Les Profs and Les Profs 2 in particular), it follows the (mis)adventures of a famously confused protagonist on an internship at Petticoin. With his crazy inventions, he will change the daily lives of his comrades, but will also annoy Prunelli, his boss.

“As soon as I saw his silhouette, I knew it was him”

To find the person who will play Gaston Lagafe on screen, Pierre-Francois Martin-Laval He put a lot of pressure on himself, knowing that loyal readers of Andre Frankin’s comics were waiting for him around the corner.

He especially trusted: “I knew that first and foremost I had to find an actor who was the character, because if I could do that, I would have done 90% of the job.”

And after several auditions, Theo Fernandez (Les Tuche) was finally chosen. However, the director first decided to eliminate this young twenty-six-year-old actor after receiving the video.

And finally, their first meeting was a revelation: “As soon as I saw his silhouette, I knew it was him, so you can’t just judge someone on a video: there’s no substitute for meeting in person.”

Thus, by adapting the hero of the famous mistake to the screen, Pierre-Francois Martin-Laval A childhood dream came true. Unfortunately, it was not a success as it only managed 529,656 entries at the box office, and Internet users of AlloCiné gave it a poor rating of 1.7 out of 5.

Mind you, the audience isn’t the only one who’s shunned this adaptation, Belgian author Andre Franckin’s daughter is too. And you, what do you think?

Tonight on NRJ12 at 9.10pm.
