Deezer became the first music streaming platform to sign the deal Statement on AI training. The document has more than 31 thousand signatories, including composers, writers and artistic organizations, including Brazilian entities.
“The unlicensed use of creative works for generative AI training poses an unfair and significant threat to the income of the people behind these works and should not be permitted,” the website states.
“We will continue to do our part to protect the rights of artists and songwriters, including developing a new compensation model for streaming, AI detection and fighting fraud,” said Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer , in a statement released to the press.
The platform announced that it is rolling out tools to detect AI-generated content, including fake rumors. The assets were developed by a team from the company itself that studied the application of the technology in audio and are expected to launch later this year.
“With a team of 15 people from different areas, Deezer has been developing detection algorithms for more than 10 years. This team uses advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to improve the effectiveness of the algorithms,” the stream reported.

The initiative was led by the British composer Ed Newton Rexfounder of Fairly Trained, a nonprofit that certifies generative AI companies for data training practices that respect creators’ rights.
The poster resonated with Hollywood artists and was signed by big names in the film industry, including Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon and Tom Holland.
Concerns about the use of artificial intelligence in the artistic world have strengthened after the strike of American actors and screenwriters last year. The closures lasted more than 100 days and increased pressure to regulate the technology.
Despite this, in September of this year, California’s governor vetoed a bill that created a set of rules for the application of generative artificial intelligence in the state’s creative industry. Gavin Newsom justified the decision by arguing that the legislation could alienate companies and hinder innovation.
