Director and screenwriter of the first Saw film, James Wan was responsible for one of the great horror phenomena of the 2000s

One of the main horror films of the 2000s, Saw there were 10 films in total, with several elaborate and bloody traps, made by Jigsaw/John Kramerplayed by Tobin Bell. On the 20th anniversary of the first feature film, the director James Wan gave his opinion on what the best trap in the franchise would be.

It’s worth remembering how Wan only directed the first film in the saga, in addition to writing the script alongside Leigh Whannellwho also played Adam Faulkner-Stanheight. In an interview with Peoplethe filmmaker revealed how a trap from the first film remains one of the most striking in the franchise.

“It really is the bear trap in the jaw,” the director said. Built by Jigsawthe reverse bear trap was first used on Amanda Young, played by Shawnee Smithin the original film, released on February 4, 2005 in Brazilian cinemas.

In the film in question, Amanda wakes up with his jaw stuck in the trap. In the instructions, Jigsaw explains to the character how she has a matter of seconds to retrieve a key, which is inside the belly of an unconscious man, lying next to her, to unlock the trap before he rips her head off. With just a few seconds left, Amanda manages to complete the challenge, but ends up taking the unknown man’s life.
