One of the most anticipated horror films of the year is now available on the streaming service. The substancefeature film with Margaret Qualley and Demi Moore, arrived this Thursday in the Brazilian catalog of Mubi (31).
The production, which criticizes aesthetic pressure and ageism in Hollywood, hit theaters at the end of September. Highly appreciated, it won the award for best screenplay at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
The substance tells the story of Elisabeth Sparkle, played by Demi Moore. After losing space in Hollywood, he finds the opportunity to present a fitness program on TV.
The problem is that the broadcaster is starting to look for a younger model to replace her. The protagonist thus finds herself alone and without any prospect of regaining the success she had in her youth.
It is in this context that Elisabeth Sparkle uses a compound called “the substance” that allows her to create a better version of herself. This is how Sue (Margaret Qualley), the ‘improved’ version of Elisabeth, is born.
