Sydney Sweeney and Emma Roberts are also in Sony’s Spider-Man universe project, alongside Venom, Morbius, Kraven and Spider-Woman.
Despite the success of Venom, remembering above all ‘Morbius’, it seems that the spider-verse still walks steadily beyond Spider-Man, linked to the MCU. But there are still many projects to come and one of the most anticipated, with the permission of ‘Kraven the Hunter’, is the Madame Web that Dakota Johnson will play.
In addition to the star of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, the project already includes big names like Sydney Sweeney or Emma Roberts, as well as lesser known ones like Celeste O’Connor and Tahar Rahim. As reported dead line, an actor has just been signed for another key character in the film. Adam Scott, known for ‘Parks and Recreations’ and present in ‘Separation’, one of the most acclaimed series of the year, will give life to this yet unspecified role.
The truth is that the project is, to say the least, curious. It is not yet known how faithful it will be to the comics, but if it were, we find that Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web (32 years old) is an old woman with a neoromuscular disease called myasthenia gravis. To survive she hooks herself up to life support similar to a spider tele. Cassandra Webb is, in addition and always according to the comics, blind. Of course, she also enjoys the power of clairvoyance, telepathy or divination, being able to classify her as a mutant (let’s not confuse ourselves with the X-Men).
From this first Madame Web we understand that Johnson would have to wear aging makeup. However, there is also a second version in which Cassandra dies and transfers her powers to Julia Carpenter, a Spider-Woman. Let’s remember that Olivia Wilde is very close to directing a ‘Spider-Woman’ movie, still without a chosen actress, although Daisy Ridley sounds, so both movies could be connected.
It is, due to its base and for what could or could not change the character’s approach from the comics, one of the titles that generate the most curiosity within this enormous world that superheroes in the cinema are increasingly becoming. For those who can’t get enough of Marvel and DC, this Sony Spider-Verse wants to go strong and Madame Web will have a lot of blame for her destiny. Will we see the first elderly superhero or will they honor Dakota Johnson’s age and rejuvenate the character? ?
‘Madame Web’ is scheduled to be released in theaters by the end of 2023.
