The visitors have won all their matches and can take the lead if the second-placed team wins in Amsterdam
This Saturday, 11/2, one of the biggest classics of the Netherlands will take place: Ajax x PSV, The Topper. The duel will be for the Dutchman’s eleventh round. The match at the Amsterdam Arena pits the leader and the vice-leader against each other. However, despite playing at Ajax’s home ground, PSV are favourites. After all, they have won all ten of their matches and lead the competition with 30 points, compared to 22 for their rivals. But Ajax are motivated. It comes from an exceptional 2-0 win, away from home, over Feyenoord (the other great Dutch team).
In the history of “The Topper”, Ajax is the one with the most victories (81 to 70, as well as 34 draws). However, they have not beaten their rivals in the last seven occasions they have met (two draws and five defeats). But Ajax’s current situation is different and nothing like what happened last season. Moreover, in 2023/24 they even came close to imminent relegation, which would be a source of embarrassment for the greatest Dutch champion (36 titles, compared to 25 for PSV and 16 for Feyenoord).
How Ajax arrives
In this 186th match against PSV, Ajax will have six absences. The main one is Kenneth Taylor, injured in the victory over Feyenoord and who will probably be replaced by Fitz-Kim. In attack Traoré and Akpom compete for a place.
How PSV arrives
In defense, coach Peter Bosz will be missing due to the injury of former Barcelona player Sergiño Dest. There is a possibility of not even counting on Perišić. The striker was injured in the last round match (6-0 against Zwolle) and is in doubt. Pepi, scorer of two goals in this rout, should remain on the bench for De Jong’s arrival.
