Actress was one of those responsible for playing the artist in another film about his life and career
Bob Dylan will be portrayed again in a biopic. A Complete Unknown premieres abroad on December 25th and will have Timothée Chalamet in the role of the musician, in addition to directing James Mangold.
Its first trailer, however, divided opinions. Fans questioned some historical events regarding the artist and others involved in the plot.
The actress Cate Blanchettwho also played the musician in the film I’m Not There (2007), spoke about the new work. In a recent interview with GQ (via Movieweb), she pointed out that a biopic does not need to be 100% faithful to the facts.
There is a lot to say, to move forward in this life. This (the film) does not necessarily have to be true. Films are not necessarily facts that occurred, but generally, they are the feeling of the thing.”
Although it may seem like a curious position, the biopic genre actually consists of the dramatization of a real personality. There is no commitment to the faithful reproduction of facts as there would be in a documentary, for example.
Actress played “Electric Dylan”
Cate Blanchett was not the only actress to play Bob Dylan in I’m Not There. Five other actors also had this opportunity during the film.
The actress played the artist in his famous “Electric Dylan” phase, when he started using electric guitars instead of acoustic guitars. The period must be portrayed in A Complete Unknown — the story must begin with the artist’s arrival in New York, in 1961, and advance until 1965, when the artistic transition takes place.
In the same interview, Cate remembered when he had this opportunity to play the folk icon. The actress said:
I experienced Bob Dylan’s version when he became ‘electric’ on tour. My God, it was so fun. And I love (the album) Highway 61 (Revisited).”
