On November 2, 2020, TF1 viewers discovered Here It All Begins, a spin-off of Tomorrow Belongs to Us. Four years later, a successful front-page bet since the daily series (offered Monday through Friday at 6:35 p.m.) is still on air and currently in its 5th season!
For this anniversary, AlloCiné was able to speak with ITC producer (as fans say) Eglantine Sofiano. In our mic, the latter assesses Season 4 and shares some interesting perspectives on this acclaimed fifth season, which is currently airing…
AlloCiné: What do you make of Season 4 of “This Is Where It All Begins”?
Eglantine Sofianos: It was a rich season! I’m quite proud of what we’ve done, especially in terms of the social issues we’ve been able to address. Season four also marks a turning point in everyday life, because for the first time, we leave the region, we leave the castle, in Brittany. And that was a huge challenge for us in terms of production. We are quite pleased with the result of this relocated arch and the public reception.
There were departures this year as well, but I think we’ve also been able to gradually integrate new characters that are the faces of Season 5. We’ve succeeded in updating without mourning the departures too much.
Has this wave of iconic actor departures given you a cold sweat?
We felt quite disappointed because inevitably there are characters and actors we grow attached to. It’s always sad to see them go, we’re not going to jump for joy when they tell us they want to leave the series! Despite everything, it is completely inherent to the concept of a soap opera. So for us, ultimately, it’s pretty natural in that regard.I finish the course and leave.’
For example, Kelly, who has had an incredible journey in the series, and seeing her go to Brittany with Salome to open their restaurant, that’s great. The story continues, the story doesn’t end there because these are the characters that will be able to come back, along with their performers who also want to come back and wink because we were able to start this season playing for 5 with the return of Greg and Elliott. These are never final deviations.
Are you learning about what worked or didn’t work over the past year?
We always learn lessons in writing. We always need to balance the arches, so we have love stories, we have charming stories… Of course, we don’t have thrillers, thrillers, but sometimes you still need a mystery, that’s important and obviously. Many kitchens. I think that’s something we’ve succeeded in Season 4 as well. Finding that balance allows us to deal with things we haven’t talked about yet. Each season is an added challenge because we’ve already told so many stories…
Do you plan to introduce new intrigues that take place far from the Auguste Armand institute?
Yes, we really want it! We have already had a new decor for the masters restaurant, we will have a new exterior decor for the season, and we hope to be able to redo the arch that was moved for the season. when I don’t know yet, but it’s all under consideration.
Do you read fan comments on social media? Do they influence the writing?
We read them. After that, we don’t hang on to those comments, but they’re not what guides us either. When there’s something that comes up regularly, whether it’s positive or negative, it’s true, we take note of it and say to ourselves: “We should pay attention to this character, maybe move it like this…. It gives us lessons and also gives us wishes for the future. So yes, what we can read on the net makes sense to us.
Such exceptional pay as it is Michael Mittelstadt (Greg) and Nicholas Anselmo (Elliot) Is it planned?
Not yet, but we are thinking about it. We always have actors or characters in mind that we want to bring back. But for now, in full transparency, there are no plans to bring back the historical figures yet.
What surprises are in store for us in the new first years “everything starts here”?
We’ll definitely have a lot more to say about them. We will soon find out about Amy specifically because we haven’t really known her since the beginning of the year. We will try to delve a little deeper into this character. Then, we’re also going to talk a lot about Coline, because she’s a character that’s connected to Carla, so obviously there are stories that come out more easily. But we also discover the secrets of Sabre…
