Marcelo told Mano Menezes not to touch him, Portal reveals

The full-back and the coach argue on the sideline and the coach gives up on playing him at the end of Fluminense x Grêmio

In addition to the dissatisfaction with the refereeing in the 2-2 draw against Grêmio, at the Maracanã, in the 32nd round of the Brazilian championship, Fluminense faces yet another setback. A disagreement between Marcelo and coach Mano Menezes arose in the last minutes of the match, when the team was winning 2-1.

At that moment, the coach was preparing to replace Lima with Marcelo in the 45th minute but, as the coach himself stated, “he heard something that he didn’t like”. For this reason, he decided to exchange Marcelo for John Kennedy.

The Trivela portal detailed the incident, indicating that Marcelo’s comment to the coach caused discomfort, ruling out the hypothesis that he had refused to enter at the end of the match. According to the website, a previous disagreement had already occurred.

Although Marcelo did not express his dissatisfaction, he expressed annoyance when asked to enter the pitch in that final phase of the match. Even reluctantly, Marcelo took off his jacket, listened to the instructions and positioned himself at the edge of the field.

The site reports that, when Mano touched the full-back’s shoulder, Marcelo asked the coach “not to touch him” and “not to interact with the fans”. This comment prompted Mano to change the substitution. According to the portal, Marcelo, however, denies the interpretation and retains the possibility of expressing his opinion on the matter, if he decides.
