The cook Paola Carosella recounted the difficult moments she experienced as a child in an interview published this Sunday 3 in the Giornale The globe. Paola, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, recalled the harassment she suffered on a bus and her relationship with her family: her father was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and her mother with depression.
The cook – she prefers not to be called a chef – was molested on a bus at the age of 12, when a man masturbated next to her. When asked “what did she learn” from what happened, Paola said: “Maybe I learned that the street is a dangerous place.” “Of course it was violent, the person was upset. But I didn’t suffer harassment like other women, I was lucky in that respect,” she said.
Paola described her childhood as “lonely and sad” and said she had been in therapy for 25 years. “When I think (in childhood)I feel a knot in my stomach. The more therapy we do, the easier it becomes to admit and recognize what wasn’t good. Especially because today there is a contrast. I have a peaceful and healthy home. My daughter grows up with freedom, without madness,” she said.
The cook also said she grew up in “a dysfunctional, authoritarian and sexist family”. She said she no longer deals with the pain of her father’s death, but has carried the pain of losing her mother “for years”: Paola’s mother was found dead in a swimming pool. “I still have a lot of corners to dig out of dark places,” he said.
“There are holes in the lives of those who don’t have a family, especially when they are immigrants. But I am a warrior and I filled those holes with friends, loves and my daughter”, says Paola, who was successful as a judge in plan Masterchef Brazilby Band, and currently presents the The soul of Cookfrom GNT. He also runs the Arturito restaurant and the La Guapa chain.
