Chilean football star Arturo Vidal is under investigation for sexual assault in Chile. The Colo-Colo player, with past stints at Flamengo and Atletico, went to the police station in the early hours of Monday (4) to check on his identity and was released hours later.
The Public Prosecutor confirmed on Monday the complaint against Arturo Vidal and other Colo-Colo players (4). The authorities have not revealed the names of the other athletes investigated in the case and, for now, only the star has shown up at the police station. In a note the deputy informs that at the moment no one is ready.
“He was at the police station as part of the first proceedings and investigations. This was carried out in the form of an investigative identity check and he was then able to continue with his activities,” explained Gerardo Aravena, colonel of the local police.
The case
According to local information, Vidal and his teammates were at the ‘Mia Bar’ in Vitacura, in Santiago, to celebrate the birthday of left winger Lucas Cepeda. The match took place after the club’s 3-0 victory over Deportes Iquique, in the Chilean championship.
Initial details indicate that the alleged victim arrived at the bar together with three other women, who also participated in the celebration in the space reserved for athletes. The guests left the place hours later, while the woman was left alone in “very bad condition” and “unconscious”.
Also according to the Chilean website Emol, a Vitacura municipal vehicle received a call this Monday around 3.45am (4) to help an “unconscious person”. However, the bar employees prevented the team from entering the premises and the inspection had to intervene.
The inspection team found that the restaurant was open beyond the permitted hours and had to intervene. Patrons were reportedly “highly intoxicated” and bar staff also showed signs of alcohol consumption. The sister of the alleged victim reported the case and claimed that the woman had been drugged and raped by the people present.
“There are reports of sexual violence in the bar, but no one is arrested,” reads an excerpt of the note sent by the Chilean deputy.

In Europe, Vidal played for clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Inter Milan. In Brazil, he played for Flamengo – between 2022 and 2023 – and Atletico. However, Paraná’s experience in red and black was short and ended with less than ten games in total.
Colo-Colo announced the signing of Vidal on January 22. Days later, in February, he presented himself to the fans with the status of king, complete with crown and helicopter upon arrival.
