After Palmeiras’ defeat against Corinthians, coach Abel Ferreira held the traditional post-match press conference at the Neo Química Arena. Verdão was defeated by its biggest rival 2-0, with goals from Garro and Yuri Alberto.

A recurring theme in Abel Ferreira’s press conferences in 2024, the coach once again complained about the team’s lack of effectiveness in clear scoring opportunities, highlighted the four strange goals conceded by the team in the last two matches and finally recalled that it is not possible to be champion every year, but the team will fight until the end.

Missed goals

-Individual errors. Did you see the first goal we conceded against Fortaleza? A wrong cut inside the area, the shot from outside, like Garro. He scored a goal outside the area, something that we in the area, with the goal without a goalkeeper, were unable to achieve. These are individual errors, coach Abel Ferreira recalled.

Main reason for the defeat

-Palmeiras paid for the lack of efficiency today, if we had had the efficiency that Corinthians had, who limited themselves to defending and exploiting our mistakes. We took 15 or 16 shots against the six opponents. Of course it’s hard, players don’t want to fail, but these mistakes pay dearly. Seeing how we conceded the last four goals and didn’t translate them into goals, despite it being one of the best attacks, we owe a lot of goals. We could have solved it in the first 30 minutes. Today we pay for the lack of efficiency and our own mistakes,” commented the Verdão coach.

Until the end!

-We have to win every match, every competition, but not even Ayrton Senna managed to win every year. In fact it wasn’t the result we wanted, due to our lack of efficiency and the mistakes we made and gave away goals to our opponents. The last four goals have been strange and those who want to be champions cannot concede goals. But we will fight to the end, – declared Abel.

Palmeiras returns to the pitch next Friday (08), at 9.30pm (Brasilia time), against Grêmio, at Allianz Parque. After the draw and defeat in the last two rounds of the Brazilian championship, the team is looking for a comeback in the competition.
