Prime Video will have summaries of series episodes generated by artificial intelligence

Amazon announcedthis Monday (4), the launch of X-Ray Recaps, a new Prime Video feature that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to create concise summaries of episodes, seasons or even specific parts of a program.

The new feature is designed to prevent viewers from coming across spoilers while trying to catch up on the plot, a common situation when searching for summaries online, which often reveal crucial story details.

X-Ray Recaps is an expansion of the existing X-Ray feature, displaying cast information and fun facts when the viewer pauses the screen.

With the new feature, when visiting a show page on Prime Video, the user will find a rewind icon that offers three options: recap the current episode, the entire season to date, or the previous season.

Amazon emphasizes that the feature is designed to be spoiler-free, ensuring users can watch it without fear of revealing important details.

The Prime Video feature is in beta in the US

Using a combination of AI models created with Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker, the feature analyzes videos, captions, and dialogue to describe important events and conversations in real time, adapting to the exact moment the viewer is watching.

The launch of X-Ray Recaps follows Google TV’s introduction of a similar tool, which also offers AI-generated summaries for shows and movies.
