“If you start your activities on social networks, the sustainable path is organic growth,” says advertiser and professor at Centro Universitário Módulo, Carlos Eduardo Corrêa de Lima.

The decision to buy followers, according to the professor, can cause more losses than gains. Lists some of them:

Fake engagement: Purchased followers don’t interact with your content. Likes, comments and shares will be low, which hurts the social network’s algorithm and reduces the reach of your publications.

Loss of credibility: the public easily notices when a profile gains followers. This creates mistrust and damages the reputation of your personal brand or company.

Violation of social media policies: Buying followers violates the platforms’ usage policies, which could lead to your account being banned.

Lost investment: Purchased followers are not real and can disappear at any time, causing you to lose the money you invested.

Difficulty acquiring real followers: When you buy followers, you create a false expectation of success, making it difficult to attract authentic followers interested in your content.

The road to success: organic growth

Organic growth is also the best way to build a solid social media presence. “This means acquiring followers authentically, sharing quality content and engaging with your audience,” says Lima.

To grow organically, the expert interviewed by the report suggests some ways:

Create an attractive profile: Use a professional profile photo and bio that describe who you are and what you do.

  • Share relevant content: Produce quality content that interests your target audience.
  • Be consistent: Post regularly and interact with your followers.
  • Use relevant hashtags: Hashtags help people find your content.
  • Join groups and communities: Connect with others who share your interests.
  • Collaborate with other content creators: Expand your reach and reach new audiences.
  • Invest in Paid Ads: Paid ads can be an effective way to increase your growth, but they must be used strategically.

“Buying followers may seem like a quick fix to gaining popularity on social media, but the risks outweigh the benefits. Building an engaged community takes time and effort, but the results are much more long-lasting and satisfying,” says Lima

The number of followers is not everything, the professor analyses. “The quality of your content and interaction with your audience are the most important factors for success on social media.”
