Developers of Roblox experiences will be required to complete a questionnaire for each creation aimed at children under 13
After Roblox revealed in October that it would announce new measures to protect children and preteens on its online platform, the company shared information about it on Roblox Creator Hublisting several features that will soon be blocked for children under 13.
According to Roblox (via VGC), developers who have created experiences on the platform must complete a questionnaire for each experience they wish to be playable by children under 13, indicating whether it is suitable for all ages or for those over 9 years old.
They have until December 3rd to fill out the questionnaire for each experience. Thereafter, players under the age of 13 will no longer be able to play, search, or discover experiences that remain unrated.
Starting November 18, several interactive features will be limited to players ages 13 and up, inclusive “social gatherings” AND “free-form user creation”.
“Social gatherings”according to Roblox, they are experiences where the goal is to chat via text or voice with other users, as the company explains “This does not include real-life role-playing games or simulation experiences where users adopt a different role or are given role-playing elements.”
In case of “free-form user creation”are all features of experiences that allow users to draw or write in 2D and freely send those creations to other users. Roblox specified it “This does not include user creations assembled from 3D materials that have been individually moderated by Roblox.”
“We recognize that the deadline is short, but we greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us ensure that Roblox is a safe and civil place for users of all ages to come together,” the company concluded, speaking directly with the platform’s developers.
