The Institute offers skateboarding courses for children and youth in BH.

The Institutção Social De Peito Aberto has started its new project in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. This is Educa Skate, which offers technical-pedagogical knowledge and practical skateboarding lessons for children and teenagers after school.

In total, 50 free places were offered to students aged 6 to 12, regularly registered in the educational network. Lessons, lasting 1 hour, are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

During the launch, which took place in October, students received a complete kit of uniforms and safety items. They were given a shirt, shorts, socks, shoes, helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guard and the skate itself. The event saw the participation of skaters “Japão” and “Dota”, as well as Izinho Clair José Benfica, Director of Parks, of the Belo Horizonte Parks Foundation.

Raquel, mother of student Luiza (9 years old), could not hide her joy at seeing her daughter involved in the project. “He has a lot of motor coordination problems, I think he will change in this sense.” Dressed for class, Luiza did not hide her anxiety at the idea of starting the activities. “I love the project and think it will be a wonderful experience.”

The Educa Skate project is carried out by De Peito Aberto with the patronage of Construtora Barbosa Mello through the federal law on sports incentives and the support of the municipality of Belo Horizonte.

“Sport is one of the main pillars of Barbosa Mello in terms of social responsibility. We know how important it is for children to experience sport and how important this is for the development of citizenship,” explains Eliamara Moreira, sustainability specialist at Construtora Barbosa Mello , main supporter of the project.

With over 18 years of experience, De Peito Aberto has experience in the design and implementation of sporting and cultural projects, and stands out for the identification of public structures for the implementation of educational and sporting activities. For the project, the location chosen for the lessons is the Parque Ismael de Oliveira Fábregas, in the north-eastern region of the capital of Minas Gerais.

For Izinho, Parks Director of the Belo Horizonte Parks Foundation, the expectation is to expand the project to more spaces in the city, with sport as a line of action in education and social responsibility. “With this initiative, De Peito Aberto opens an opportunity for all of us in Belo Horizonte. Through lessons, children will have the opportunity to grow in terms of health, education and personality.”

Wenceslau Madeira, founder and president of De Peito Aberto, underlined the importance of sport for the development of children.” “Sport is a means of social transformation. We want to see these young people grow not only as athletes, but as citizens.”
