Champion of everything in Germany in the 2023/24 season, Leverkusen takes the cups to Brazil

The Bayer Leverkusen Cup Tour arrives in Sao Paulo (SP).

Bayer 04 Leverkusen will make a special visit to South America next week, during the FIFA Data international break. The cup tour, called 2024 Trophy Tour Brazil, presents to the Brazilian public the results achieved by the German team in the 2023/24 season. The current German champion also won the DFB Pokal and the Super Cup

This is the club’s second official intercontinental trip this year and will be led by Simon Rolfes, sporting director of Bayer 04 Leverkusen, accompanied by Kim Falkenberg, head of recruitment.

The two managers will be accompanied to Sao Paulo by the Bayer 04 ambassador and Brazilian football idol, Paulo Sérgio, who wore the club’s shirt, as well as Jorginho, Emerson and Zé Roberto.

“The history of the Bayer 04 Leverkusen players is deeply linked to Brazil,” said Rolfes. “There are many great Brazilian stars and personalities who have contributed to our club over the decades, and we are proud to have Arthur in our team, as part of the three titles won last season.”

Leverkusen’s rich tradition of Brazilian players, including the young 21-year-old defender Arthur mentioned by Rofles, goes back a long way, starting with Tita in the 1980s.

The Brazilian with the most games for Bayer Leverkusen is left-back Wendell, with 250 games. After him comes the five-time defender Juan, with 176 games, followed by Zé Roberto and Paulo Sérgio, with 150, and Renato Augusto, with 126.

And speaking of historic titles, the Bundesliga title broke Bayern Munich’s 11-year hegemony and all without losing a single match! Bayer Leverkusen was only the fifth German club to win the domestic double and became the first in Bundesliga history to finish the championship undefeated.

Xabi Alonso’s side have reached 51 consecutive matches without defeat in 2023-24, surpassing the previous European record of 48 matches, set by Portugal’s Benfica in 1963-65. The streak was only interrupted in the Europa League final in May.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen also won the Super Cup in August, winning on penalties against VfB Stuttgart, securing their third trophy in three months. The title of the DFB Pokal, known as the German Cup, was a 1-0 victory over Kaiserslautern.
