Carmen Perez wants to show another vision of agribusiness in a documentary: ‘Life in nature’

Rural entrepreneur Carmen Perez will invite experts and scientists for a special documentary

Poetry. This is how the rural entrepreneur works Carmen Perez (46) defines your contact with the field. “I believe that every soul is born with an aptitude. My maternal grandfather always worked in agriculture, so all my childhood was spent on the farm. We are four brothers and only I had the desire to continue in the field”recalls, who left the city of São Paulo to venture into the agri-food sector at the Fazenda Orvalho das Flores, located in Araguaiana, Mato Grosso. “I love life in nature”says Carmen.

She currently divides her time between looking after the livestock on the farm and family life in Ribeirão Preto, in the hinterland of São Paulo, where she shares moments with her husband, a breeder and zootechnician. Federico Simeoni (43), and daughters, Olivia (14) e White (5). Thanks to such frequent and close contact with livestock, Carmen, who has been involved in agriculture since the age of 22, began to develop a special feeling for animals.

It is from this love, in fact, that her interest in animal welfare was born and, currently, she sees it as her true mission, becoming an enthusiast and a reference in the country when it comes to animal welfare and good production practices. “This relationship with animals, for me, represents one of the happiest moments of my life. It is a contact between different species and it is non-verbal. It is a relationship of the soul”explains.

To improve the lives of animals and, consequently, of producers in the field, Carmen has studied management techniques and respect for animal values. His innovative vision gave rise to the book Animal Welfare in Brazil and Germany: Sensitivity and Responsibility and the film project When I heard the voice of the earthpublished in 2021.

“Wildlife is cruel, but the life of farm animals must not be. We know that they have a destiny, which is the production of food, but throughout their lives, even at the time of slaughter, they can have respect, they can have a good life, one that’s worth it”defends himself.

To broaden his knowledge and reach more people inside and outside of agribusiness when it comes to animal welfare and the connection to city and country, the producer plans to release a new film next year, titled Another look.

“It is a documentary that brings precisely this other vision of agribusiness. I spoke with experts, scientists and with one of the most important voices in the field of animal welfare, Professor Mateus Paranhos”says Carmen.
