This Back to the Future scene answers a question we’ve been asking for 35 years

Virtually perfect on every level, and especially in terms of screenplay, Robert Zemeckis’s famous Timeline trilogy is rightly considered one of the quintessential science fiction. However, if we really want to talk, it’s clear that Back to the Future leaves some rare questions unanswered.

For example: What happens to Dave and Linda, Marty’s older brother and sister, after the first part of the saga?

What happened to Dave and Linda?

Introduced at the beginning of the original film and portrayed as real losers, they reappeared at the end of the feature film – i.e. after March’s adventures in 1955 – and now seem to be leading much improved lives like their parents.

Barely shown in Opus III, they were completely absent from Back to the Future II. But as I remind you Collider’s latest articleAt first it wasn’t, at least with Dave’s character. Indeed, even if he was ultimately cut from the film, the series featured his brief reunion with Marty when the latter found himself in a thoroughly corrupt and nightmarish alternate present under the rule of Biff Tannen.

Dave in an alternate 1985

In a controversial sequence (see above), Marty comes face-to-face with his brother as he arrives in front of Biff’s hotel-casino. Unceremoniously and completely drunk out of the facility, Dave suggested to a paralyzed Marty that the situation was very disturbing, and especially that their mother was currently at the top of the Tower of Beef. “as always”.

As for Linda, Marty’s sister, her name has yet to be mentioned, even in this deleted scene.

Undoubtedly omitted from the finale due to its pacing and script effectiveness, the script in an alternate 1985 version shed some light on the McFleece’s marital situation.
