Andrés Bracamonte was attacked near the Gigante de Arroyito stadium; The suspicion is that the crime has to do with an attempt by drug traffickers to co-opt Barra Brava
The leader of the brava bar Central Rosary, Andrés ‘Pillín’ Bracamontewas shot dead on Saturday night, the 9th, in Santa Fe, Argentina. The action took place near the Gigante de Arroyito stadium, home of the club, where shortly before the team had lost 1-0 against San Lorenzo for the Argentine championship.
Another member of the barra brava, Daniel Atardo, considered Pillín’s right-hand man, also died as a result of the gunfire. Both were taken to Centennial Provincial Hospital, but did not survive.
As published by the Argentine portal Infobae, the two were aboard a Chevrolet S10 pickup truck when they were attacked. Witnesses said they heard between seven and 10 shots. At the time of the crime there were still people leaving the stadium and others heading to a traditional bar nearby. The public prosecutor Alejandro Ferlazzo has analyzed the crime scene and has already requested the statements heard and the images from the security cameras of the homicide division of the local police.

It was not the first time that Pillín had been the target of an attack. In August he had already been shot, again near the Rosario Central stadium, after a derby against Newell’s Old Boys. At that moment, two boys on a motorbike shot him. One shot grazed him in the back and another wounded his girlfriend.
The leader of Barra Brava is also on trial for gender violence. The Argentine Public Prosecutor requested two years’ imprisonment for Pillín for assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The threat reports were made in 2018.
The local police are investigating the Barra Brava in Rosario. According to the Infobaea criminal organization responsible for drug dealing in the northwestern region of the city seeks to co-opt organized fans. Initial suspicions indicate that Pillín’s murder would be a way to take over the supporters’ organization.
Investigations also indicate that it was another murder, which occurred on October 1, when Samuel Medina, also a member of the bar association, was killed with 16 gunshots. He was the son-in-law of Ariel Máximo, considered a leader of the “Los Monos” faction.
A reaction to this murder occurred in the match between Rosario Central and Banfield. After the team opened the scoring, the barra brava set off firecrackers and raised a flag in Medina’s honor. In the next home match, against Barracas, a person allegedly related to the Los Monos faction was attacked in the sector occupied by Barracas. Rosario Central has not yet commented on the death of its fans. Pillín was one of Barra Brava’s managers for 25 years.
The city of Rosario is experiencing a drug trafficking war between factions. In March this year the city of 1.3 million came to a standstill after a series of murders. The wave of violence was sparked by surprise raids on prisons in the region.
The city is the hometown of Messi and Di María. The former played at Newell’s before moving to Barcelona, while the latter played professionally at Rosario Central.
When there was the possibility that Di María would be repatriated, at the beginning of 2024, the player’s family immediately threatened. “I had everything ready to go back, but the threats exceeded all limits. They left a box with a pig’s head and a bullet in the forehead, along with a note that said that, if I returned, the next head would be my daughter Pía” , the attacker told the newspaper HIat the moment.
According to police, the action is a reaction from the factions, who believe that operations against them could increase in a scenario where stars like Di Maria were present in the city. Messi also received threats.
