The Penguin series is a direct sequel to the 2022 film The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson. The story begins a week after the events of the film and, according to its creator, serves as a connection for the second part of the film The Dark Knight.
“The Penguin” chronicles the plans and movements of Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobb, the disfigured former lieutenant of deceased crime boss Carmine Falcone, who seeks to take his place as head of the Gotham City mob.
The series changed the origin of The Penguin that we have seen for years in the comics and adapted it to the universe created by director Matt Reeves for the movie “The Batman”.
Unlike the comics, where Oswald Cobblepot comes from a wealthy family, the Max series presents him as someone less privileged, so he seeks to rise in the criminal world with his cunning and ambition, and not just because he has a large inheritance.
In “The Penguin” Oz does not appear with exaggerated penguin-like features, with a large nose and difficulty walking, as it happens in the comics. In the series, Oz has a visible deformity in his leg, but his physical atrophy is more like that of an injured person than an animal.
Oz’s motivations for being evil are not due to his physical appearance and rejection, but rather stem from greed and the pursuit of power through manipulation. Oz starts out as a low-level criminal who gradually builds his empire.

Cristin Milioti plays one of the villains, Sofia Falcone, who is the daughter of Carmine Falcone and an alleged serial killer who battles Oz for control of Gotham City’s criminal underworld.
The 39-year-old American actress has worked in the films “The Wolf of Wall Street”, “Palm Springs” and the acclaimed series “How I Met Your Mother”, “Fargo” and “Black Mirror”.
Rhenzy Feliz plays Víctor Aguilar, a homeless teenager who becomes Oz’s personal driver and enforcer. The actor of Dominican origin has appeared in series such as “Runaways” and “American Horror Stories.”
Mark Strong plays the late crime boss Carmine Falcone, who appears in flashbacks throughout the story. The British actor, 61, is known for his roles in ‘Sherlock Holmes’, ‘Kick-Ass’ and ‘Cruella’.
Michael Kelly as Johnny Vitti, the understudy of the Falcone crime family and acting boss after Carmine’s death, who confronts Oz and Sophia. The 55-year-old American actor is known for “House of Cards”, “Jack Ryan” and “Criminal Minds”.

Due to the success of ‘The Batman’, Warner Bros ordered an 8 episode series to tell the story of The Penguin.
