Only 4 episodes to go! This charming and exciting series is a must-see on the M6

The attacks of November 13, 2015 left a mark on the population of France. In just a few minutes, this completely ordinary Friday evening turned into a real nightmare when a group of terrorists attacked several emblematic places of the capital, as a result of which more than 130 people were killed.

With the horror of the events, DGSI and DGSE have launched a relentless hunt to nab the sponsors of these attacks. And it is their story that is told in The Spies of Terror, a new event series from M6, with the first two episodes being broadcast on Tuesday 12 November at 9.10pm.

At the center of the hunt for Daesh agents

After the November 13 attacks, DGSI and DGSE teams are mobilized to find sponsors and thus prevent another tragedy.

Lucy, a counter-terrorism agent from DGSI, played by Fleur Geffrier, is more determined than ever to move the investigation forward. He doesn’t hesitate to join forces with Malika (Rachida Brackney), an experienced DGSE analyst. Thus, they will combine their forces, but also their resources, to end this hunt as quickly as possible.

On the other hand, Vincent (Vincent Elbaz), a major in Lille’s territorial DGSI, does everything to protect his new source, alias Minotaur, who provides them with valuable information on French jihadists.

But can she really trust him? Over the course of several months, Spies of Terror follows these men and women who are willing to do anything to protect France from new attacks, risking their personal lives and waking up with certain scars.

Interesting mini-series

Such frank discussion of the November 13 attacks could have been dangerous. However, screenwriter Franck Philippon has succeeded in offering a fascinating mini-series that brings to the screen the work of Matthieu Suc, a Mediapart journalist specializing in terrorism.

Terror Spies is actually an adaptation of his 2018 investigative book of the same name, which detailed the workings of the Islamic State’s secret services. The journalist put his experience in the service of the mini-series, as he helped write the scripts.

Far from the clichés of the genre, Terror Spies takes us on a hunt full of successes but also many failures, and tells a story that we mere mortals never had the chance to know.

Because the most important thing in this series is to show the hard work of these agents, who put their lives on the line for several years in the hope of preventing a new tragedy.

Five star actor

And if the spies of terror advise us to plunge into the heart of the French secret services, Franck Philippon, the screenwriter, also wanted to focus on the characters and especially on the psychological effect that this work had on them.

He took care to explore the intimate sphere to show the impact of this surveillance on their personal lives. A dimension that shows that these characters, who are often seen as heroes, also experience events.

This intimate aspect of the story is enhanced by the talent of the actors who play the main characters. Fleur Geffrier, a rising French TV star soon to appear in Rivages, manages to bring sensitivity to the character of Lucy Kessler without overdoing it.

The same goes for Rachida Brackney, who plays DGSE agent Malika Berthier, a strong and independent woman who still faces difficulties in her family life. Pierre Perrier and Vincent Elbaz are clearly no outliers and complete this cast perfectly.

If Terror Spies is flawless, two extra episodes wouldn’t be superfluous to better understand and better retain all the information used, which is sometimes a little too dense.

The fact remains that The Spies of Terror is an effective mini-series that should not be missed!

Catch the first two episodes of Terror Spies this Tuesday 12 November from 9.10pm on M6.
