The actress sent a hint to the filmmaker by insinuating that he doesn’t usually make feature films with female protagonists.

Despite having already worked with renowned filmmakers, Nicole Kidman he has a large list of directors with whom he would like to make films. In an interview with Vanity Fair (via Variety), she gave some names and sent a hint to Martin Scorsese.

“I always said I would like to work with [Martin] Scorseseif he makes a film with women”, he said. “I would love to work with Kathryn Bigelow. I would love to work with Spike Jonze. I would love to work with PTA [Paul Thomas Anderson]. I always wanted to work with Michael Haneke. And there are a lot of new emerging directors — there are so many, and I’m always open to discovering new people.”

“And I think it’s really exciting when you say, ‘Here’s someone with so much experience, who has worked and worked, but has now really found her groove,'” the actress added. “I worked with Karyn Kusama in The Weight of the Pastand she moved on with Yellowjackets and many other important projects. She was at a point of frustration, unable to carry out the projects she wanted and without having the opportunities.”

Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974) is one of the few films by Scorsese with a woman as the main character, played by Ellen Burstyn. In the last year, Lily Gladstone played an important role in Flower Moon Assassinsalbeit alongside male protagonists.

Scorsese has also been criticized in the past for The Irishman due to the elimination of the role of Anna Paquin — the actress’ character had just one line of dialogue in the more than three-hour long film.
