Bianca Cline said finishing ‘Rust’ as director of photography could prevent her from securing new work in the future
Bianca Clinedirector of photography who finished Rustspoke about the topic in an interview with HollywoodReporter (via People). She replaced Halyna Hutchinskilled on the film set when she was shot, after being encouraged by her friend Rachel Masonwho is making a feature film about Hutchins.
Cline revealed that, after the conversation with Masonshe “just sat for three days” in her apartment, thinking, “‘Can I do this? Why would I do that?'”

“Eventually, I decided it was the right thing to do. I thought, ‘If I had died, I would want Halyna do this'”, he reflected. The director then called Joel Souzadirector of the film, who, upon receiving the message, confessed: “It made me think: ‘Maybe there is still kindness towards Rust‘”.
Right away, Cline he still had to deal with the difficulty of finding a camera crew willing to work on the feature film.

“Even people who thought it was a great idea for us to finish the film said, ‘I can’t be associated with this,’ because of the stigma,” he said. Clinewho further admitted: “When I accepted the film, I did it knowing that I might never work again.”
“This could be my last film”, he pondered. “I could be boycotted.”
