The main fight of UFC 309, this Saturday (16), was not initially going to produce such an antagonistic rivalry between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. But some facts could cause the animosity to start building during fight week.

The trigger was a video from ‘Countdown’, an Ultimate program used to promote its major events. In one of the scenes during training, Miocic appears to call Jones a “bitch”, which the heavyweight champion didn’t like.

– You should never have called me a bitch. The disrespect was unnecessary. Let’s play – said ‘Bones’ on social media,

Jones’ revolt, however, did not have the same resonance with his opponent. During the UFC 309 media day, Miocic refuted how his weekend rival reacted to such “provocation”, citing statements from the heavyweight champion that would not have been the most favorable for him.

– He kept telling everyone he wanted to beat me. I am always a positive person. Didn’t Jon say something like that before? I am sorry. You talk shit about me, but it doesn’t matter – commented the challenger to the Ultimate heavyweight title.

According to the former belt holder, Jon Jones’ anger may also have been linked to an attempt to promote Saturday’s bout and also to increase the rivalry to have some psychological advantage for the bout. Which doesn’t intimidate Stipe Miocic in the slightest, accustomed to similar comparisons.

– Maybe it motivates you, maybe not. I don’t know what Jon thinks, but for me there are things that are normal. I had no idea what it said about me until someone showed it to me. It’s funny, comical, actually, it’s quite funny,” he said.
