Game of Thrones actress takes on iconic role in adaptation produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge
Sophie Turnerknown for playing Sansa Stark in game of Thronesis about to be confirmed as the new Lara Croft in the series tomb Raiderfrom Amazon. According to information from Deadlinethe contract has not yet been finalized, but the agreement is close to being closed. The series, announced earlier this year, will be written and produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridgecreator of Fleabagas part of its general contract with Amazon.
The series is based on the famous video game franchise tomb Raiderwhich follows the global adventures of Lara Croft, an archaeologist and explorer in search of ancient relics and mysteries. The production marks yet another adaptation of the franchise’s universe, now aimed at TV, with the aim of expanding the universe of tomb Raider in new stories for series and films.
The role of Lara Croft, now assumed by Sophie, has already been played by Angelina Jolie in the film adaptations of the franchise. Jolie played the iconic archaeologist in the films Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Origin of Life (2003). The films together grossed more than US$430 million worldwide, marking one of the first major film adaptations of video games.
Turner gained worldwide notoriety as Sansa Stark throughout eight seasons of game of Thronesa role that earned her an Emmy nomination in 2019. Additionally, she played Jean Gray in the films X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Recently, he starred in the series Joanfrom ITV/CW, and The Staircasefrom Max.
There is still no premiere date for the series.
