Award-winning comedian will lead the 97th edition of the awards show at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirmed that Conan O’Brien will host the 97th edition of the Oscars, scheduled for March 2, 2025. This will be the first time that the comedian and former talk show host will take over the helm of cinema’s biggest awards show. O’Brien succeeds Jimmy Kimmelwho hosted the ceremony in recent years.
We are thrilled and honored to have the incomparable Conan O’Brien host this year’s Oscars,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang in a joint statement. “He is the perfect person to help lead our global celebration of cinema with his brilliant humor, his love of movies and his expertise in live TV. His remarkable ability to connect with audiences will bring viewers together to do what the Oscars do best — honor this year’s spectacular films and filmmakers.”
O’Brien responded humorously to the announcement. “America [Estados Unidos] demanded and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars.”he said.
Conan, winner of five Emmy Awards, is known for his career in television, which includes shows such as Late Night with Conan O’Brien and Conan. Before that, he distinguished himself as a screenwriter for Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons. He currently hosts the popular podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend and recently starred in the travel program Conan O’Brien Must Go.
Among the films nominated for the award are Anoraby Sean Baker; Wickedby Jon M. Chu; and Gladiator IIby Ridley Scott. On the national scene, I’m Still Hereby Walter Salles, was chosen to represent Brazil in the Best International Film category.
The ceremony will be held at Dolby Theaterin Hollywood, and broadcast live to more than 200 countries and territories. In Brazil, the broadcast will be made on the channel TNT and by Max in streaming, scheduled to start in 8pm (Brasília time)including the red carpet pre-show.
