Available on the MAX platform, the Penguin series follows Matt Reeves’ Batman and follows the rise of Oswald Cobb, played by Colin Farrell, in Gotham City’s criminal underworld.
After ups and downs, many betrayals and manipulations, and a game of cat and mouse with Carmine Falcone’s daughter Sofia Falcone (Christine Milioti), Penguin finally becomes the powerful gangster he always dreamed of in a brutal and tragic finale.
This latest episode of the Lauren LeFranc-produced series has dropped some hints about what’s to come in The Batman II, which stars Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz and is slated for release in 2026.

While Penguin has won fans over with an excellent 4.4 out of 5 rating on AlloCinĂ©, some sections of the public are disappointed that they haven’t seen Batman in the series. His only “presence” materializes in the final episode with the appearance of the Bat-Signal.
Why is Batman not in the series “Penguin”?
Originally, Matt Reeves wanted the superhero to appear in the series and explained Entertainment Weekly that he had several discussions with the creative team: “We tried a few different ideas conceptually, nothing was scripted, but nothing really came together in a way that felt relevant.”.
One such idea was to have Bruce appear with young Vic, Oz’s protĂ©gĂ©. but according to him “It really messed things up”.

It’s not just a call. This is a warning.
For his part, showrunner Lauren LeFranc understands fans’ frustration with the series’ absence of Batman, but explained SFX that movies and series had a different point of view:
“Matt’s movies are set in Batman’s eyes, so you’re up there, looking down on the city. With Ozzy, you’re at the bottom of the city, you’re in the mud, the dirt. He’s looking. Up, to the top.
So it’s a different experience. I think Gotham is an interesting enough city that it deserves to have more locked doors inside and we can walk through them and see what we think.”
Batman was busy during “Penguin”.
For some fans, Batman’s absence is surprising given the turmoil in the gangster world. They wonder why Bruce Wayne doesn’t intervene when criminals wreak havoc on Gotham, be it material or human.

Penguin and Sofia Falcone kill two of Gotham/Batman’s biggest mafia families:
But Matt Reeves has an answer for that. He explained it like this Digital Spy That Bruce Wayne was busy elsewhere and that he was still traumatized by the events of Batman in the movie:
“There was a big mess in the city, literally a week after the incident. A lot of cities are desperate, so the police can’t intervene everywhere, there’s crime everywhere, it’s a very, very dangerous time. .
He is trying to cope with everything that happened, for which he blames himself to some extent.”
