Mexico’s coach is hit by a bottle and leaves the field bleeding after the defeat against Honduras

Mexico was defeated 2-0 by Honduras in the Concacaf Nations League, away from home. Coach Javier Aguirre was harassed by fans at the Francisco Morazán stadium and was pelted with cans and bottles.

Aguirre left the field bleeding this Friday, the 15th, after a bottle hit the Mexican on the head. The images show the moment he was injured. The stadium is known for the proximity of the fans to the pitch, which makes attacks like the one suffered by the coach easier.

“It’s football,” downplayed the coach, who abstained from further comments on the matter. “It was a clean, extremely competitive match; they deserved to win and I can only congratulate them,” he said in the post-match press conference.

The match was valid for the quarter-finals of the competition. Mexico and Honduras will face each other next Tuesday, 11/19, at 11.30pm (Brasilia time).
