This iconic video game adaptation that fans have been waiting for will finally never see the light of day

In 2012, Ubisoft announced that the film would be based on the franchise “Splinter CellInspired by Tom Clancy, with Tom Hardy in training as the hero, Sam Fisher. Director Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow, Memory in the Skin) then joined the project… but he was quickly forgotten.

Five years later, producer Basil Ivanyk told Collider that there was a script, though it was “still a bit long”. After seven years and years of no progress, the producer announced to the site Direct Final abandonment of this cinematic adaptation.

Too expensive a project?

“That movie would have been great… but we never got around to finishing it, script-wise or budget-wise. Still, it would have been incredible. We worked on tons of different versions, but it had to be intense and it’s impressive, it’s one of those From projects that are moving away from us and it’s really sad.

Accordingly, there will be no film based on the series of infiltration games released by Ubisoft in 2002. Tom Clancy, a writer specializing in spy novels (by the way, the creator of a series of novels Jack Ryanadapted into films and TV series), collaborated on the script of the first game to enhance the realism of the story. Splinter Cell follows the adventures of Sam Fisher, a special agent working for a secret government organization called Echelon 3. Fisher is an expert in high-risk covert missions that operate in all corners of the world.

Considered too difficult to write and finance, a feature film inspired by the adventures of this video game hero will never see the light of day. Netflix is producing Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, an animated series inspired by the games (a teaser of which can be seen at the top of this article).
