Erosion compromises the highway in Glorinha and affects thousands of motorists
A congestion of 40 kilometers was recorded this Sunday (17) on the BR-290 (freeway), after a erosion opening a crater in the stretch between km 46 and km 47, in the coastal direction-Porto Alegre. The dealership CCR ViaSul they reported that the problem was caused by the rupture of an underground tunnel which, due to its age, gave way, creating a large hole in the asphalt.
The collapse occurred in the afternoon, blocking all lanes and leaving only the shoulder lane available to motorists. Maintenance teams were quickly dispatched to the site to carry out the work emergency repairswhile the PRF advised drivers to postpone their return to avoid further inconvenience.
Around 9pm, two lanes were reopened in the opposite direction, allowing for a more controlled flow. According to Paulo Linck, director of the JRC, the motorway is inspected every six months, with the last inspection taking place in September without any warning of a fault.
Despite the lanes being open, traffic remained slow, with maintenance operations ongoing at the site. The recommendation was for drivers to wait until Monday morning to return to the capital, easing the heavy flow.
