He Freezes You In Monsters, Javier Bardem teams up with Scorsese and Spielberg to adapt cult thriller

This is a project that makes us look forward to… term We are told that the Cape Fear series has officially received the green light from Apple TV+ and will reunite the prestigious team of Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Javier Bardem.

Nerves on edge

Created by Nick Antoska (The Act), this ten-episode adaptation is based on the John D. Macdonald’s novel, which has already inspired two cult films: Jack Lee Thompson’s Jerky in 1962 and its remake by Scorsese in 1991. A thriller with a Hitchcockian twist, it focuses on 21st century America’s obsession with true crime.

In this revised version, Max Cady, a recently released murderer, returns to the life of Amanda and Steve Bowden, a couple of lawyers. This version differs from the previous one, where only the husband was a lawyer. On screen, Max Cady was alternately portrayed by Robert Mitchum in 1962 and Robert De Niro in 1991, two unforgettable performances that gave the role a haunting and iconic aura.

Javier Bardem is excellent as Max Cady

Taking on the qualities of Max Cady, Javier Bardem returns to dark and disturbing characters, an area in which he excels. Already an Oscar winner for his role as a killer in No Country for Old Men, he proved his ability to play dangerous men with disturbing intensity and depth. He also recently impressed with his role as an incestuous father in the hit Netflix series Monsters: The Lily and Eric Menendez Story.

His ability to make his characters psychologically nuanced gives him a place to choose in a world of complex antagonists. With Cape Fear, Javier Bardem again takes on a demanding role where he must bring to life all the depravity and relentless determination of Max Cady, a character marked by an almost mystical thirst for revenge.

Elegant creative team

The Cape Fear project is based on the elegant and shocking collaboration between Scorsese, Spielberg and Antoska. UCP, in partnership with Amblin Television, is behind the production, which also marks Scorsese’s first TV project with Apple TV+, following their previous collaboration on Killers of the Flower Moon.

This TV version adds to the long list of prestigious series that have become a trademark of Apple TV+. Bringing Max Cady to life, Javier Bardem should bring to Cape Fear the ability to hypnotize and freeze the blood of the audience, reminding us that certain figures of evil are timeless.
