The future is definitely not looking good for Achilles (Mathieu Rodríguez) in Un si grand soleil!
Needless to say, his new love affair with Charlotte (Clémence Boeuf) could cause him a lot of trouble during the next episodes of the daily soap opera France 3.
Mathieu Rodríguez, his translator, spoke to Allocine about the future of his character. And maybe Achilles will go to the dark side once again…
Allocine: Going back to the beginning of your adventure in Un si grand soleil, what attracted you to the role of Achilles?
Matthew Rodriguez : Achilles would not stay long in Un si grand soleil. Basically, I only had to shoot for three days. The writers did not plan this story at all. And then it continued.
The character grew and developed. I love her evolution, the family they were able to build around her, and all the stories that happen to her. I was lucky that Achilles became the son of a florist.
How do you see the evolution of your character?
Achille matures in episodes and I like that a lot. He’s had a really tough life, but he always gets up. I am quite proud of my character.
2024 marked the death of Christophe (Hubert Benhamdin). How did you experience this moment?
It wasn’t very funny because I had a lot of pretty sad scenes. Before acting, I like to get myself into character because I have trouble concentrating. I prefer playing happy scenes because that’s how I am in life. My only regret is that I wish I had more scenes with Hubert.
With Christopher’s death, Achilles reveals a much darker side. Do you like exploring new aspects of your character?
I like how Achilles gets darker and darker, with his comrades and his mother. He still told his therapist that he wanted to kill people. I dream of playing a villain. While Achilles isn’t really a bad guy, he’s a pretty dark character and I enjoy that. I played very interestingly.
I remember something Hubert Benhamdin told me. He liked to imagine the audience, which was not necessarily written in the script. I don’t know if it will happen or not, but I want the public to believe that Achilles might one day become the new florist.
Do you think Achilles could one day go to the dark side and follow in his father’s footsteps?
I’d love to, but I’m not sure it will. It’s clear that his meeting with Charlotte will put him back on the wrong side. Achilles will have much darker ideas as he begins to mourn his father a bit.
Even if this meeting darkens the hero, I’m not sure that Achilles will become the new florist. I want to, but at the same time, I’m very afraid to be compared to Hubert Benhamdin, who is a huge actor.
What about the cult that has been created around the florist and that Achilles will be a part of?
Achilles will understand that many people admire the florist. It will make him happy, but at the same time, it might not be so good for his mental health. He will bring it back.
Why does Achilles persist in believing that the flower-maker was doing good to those around him, and does not recognize that he has done evil?
Simply because Kristoff was her father. When he found out that the man he loved like a father was a serial killer, it was a real shock to him. He refused to believe that he was the murderer.
When he found out that he only killed criminals, Kristoff became a true hero in his eyes. There is also a form of loyalty, since it was Kristoff who adopted her.
After Christophe’s death, Achille developed a wonderful relationship with Hugo. What awaits them in the next episodes?
It is almost a paternal relationship between them. Hugo was very present for Achilles. But everything changes when my character discovers Hugo’s role in the florist’s investigation. He will be angry with her and will not want to see her again.
