Russian air defenses shot down 42 Ukrainian drones, the ministry says

Russian air defense units destroyed 42 Ukrainian drones in at least eight regions in the south and center of the country, including 32 in the Bryansk border area and two in the Moscow region, officials said.

The Russian Defense Ministry gave the total number of 42 drones, saying they were destroyed between 9pm and 11.55pm local time. The file provided no details on the damage.

Ukraine has long used drones over long distances to strike targets deep inside Russian territory, including airports and energy sites. But using dozens of drones in a short period of time was unusual.

Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomaz said in a series of posts on the Telegram messaging app that air defenses had gone into action. It reported no casualties or damage.

The Defense Ministry said two drones were destroyed in the Moscow region, near the Russian capital, and another was shot down in the Smolensk region, near the border with Belarus.
