There are many television series that have been lucky enough to have lasted a long time, and Shameless it is definitely one of them. The drama, which is one of the best Showtime shows you can stream right now, concluded its acclaimed run with 11 seasons. At the time, it led to emotional messages from stars like Emma Kenney. You’d think the cast would love to have such a long duration. Still, it looks like Jeremy Allen White would have been a happier camper had he not been on the air for so long.
Jeremy Allen White, known for playing Philip “Lip” Gallagher Shamelessopen to HQ of his time on the show. While he generally enjoyed being a part of the hit show, White admitted that his enthusiasm for him decreased slightly due to the length of the work:
I love Shameless so much. I love everyone who has been a part of it and the experience was great. But I don’t know if the shows are supposed to last that long … There was a time when I stopped feeling like an actor and started feeling like I was just there to do this series.
I don’t blame Jeremy Allen White for trying what he felt. I guess being on a show for that long can definitely have an impact on someone. Ideally, the actors want to challenge themselves with new things. So if they play the same characters for a long time, there is a chance that things will get stale and uninteresting.
Of course, things eventually ended, but that didn’t help Jeremy Allen White. As he further explained, the inevitability of the show ending made him think more about his skills as an artist:
It was a creepy mental space to be in. When I was about to finish, I asked myself: maybe I only exist in this show. What else is there? Am I an actor? I really had a lot of doubts when I finished Shameless.
In the end, the actor had nothing to worry about as he can now be seen as Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto on FX. the bear, one of the best TV shows of the moment. The show quickly found an audience and soon got a second season renewal. Given its popularity, you have to wonder how long it could last, although I’d be surprised if the network and its streaming home Hulu allowed it to run for nearly 10 seasons.
Considering everything the actor says here, you have to wonder why he chose to stay on the show for so long, especially since stars like Emmy Rossum left even before it ended. But then again, as his comments of him suggest, he may have feared he could really thrive outside of the show that made him a star.
More than a year later ShamelessFinal without Fiona Gallagher, Jeremy Allen White seems to be doing well. On the contrary, I am grateful to the Showtime series for introducing him to viewers, because the series would not have been the same without him. Hopefully, the actor continues to crush him and he can find new ways to grow as an actor.
